| FALL 2007 | Section 2: President's Report | |
|
This has been a year after change for BCUS, with new Bylaws in place and the three member executive. Our meetings have been achieved by conference call, e-mail and in- person. Having the executive Director in place has been the most beneficial part of the process, thank you Sue. We have been working to find a way of communicating to allow members in locations outside the lower mainland to participate Membership has declined further in 2007- 2008 and we have to review the future activities of BCUS. The only issue for sonographers at this time is Bill 29 that could be of interest and we will continue to monitor the situation on behalf of the membership (see the HSA website for further info). The BCUS website continues to provide a resource for those wanting to connect with a provincial group. We have not provided any education in 2007-2008. After the disappointing attendance at the last AGM/Education day and the difficulty in finding speakers, it was decided to revisit the education activities of BCUS. We will continue to have CME credits available for any group of Sonographers that want to organize an Ultrasound related education day or evening. The Membership dues have been reduced to reflect the change in the education component. Please advise Sue of your preference for your prepaid membership dues. Tiffany Graham attended the CSDMS conference in Niagara on behalf of BCUS. Ours is not the only society having challenges with membership and interest. We will connect with the other Provincial societies at the Victoria meeting in June 2008. At this time the discussion at Executive level has been to minimize our activities and expenses to a minimum level that will maintain a society and a presence for the membership. With a society in place if a need arise BCUS will be ready to participate in discussion. There is continued representation at BCIT meetings but we have been unable to find a solution to the lack of student interest in BCUS. Ideas are welcome. The present Executive has worked to find alternates to allow all members the opportunity to participate in the BCUS executive. We believe we have some processes in place at this time. The Executive director is our most important link in the process. BCUS will continue as long as funds and membership interest allows. Sandra Austin, BCUS President |
